The Masvingo Central Police Station has detained 40 students from Gokomere High School on Monday, November 8, for allegedly destroying school property.
The students were accused of destroying the dining hall window panes and the school head Acquanos Mazhunga’s vehicle during a protest. It is not yet clear what the students were protesting against.
They were however freed following the intervention of human rights lawyers. Giving an update on the matter, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Right (ZLHR) wrote;
”40 Gokomere College students who were taken from their school premises this morning have now been released following @ZLHRLawyers intervention. The OIC advised that if need be they will go after the “ring leaders”.
The students were accused of staging a protest at school.
