Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin met Russia's Vladimir Putin after mutiny

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Prigozhin, the leader of the mercenary outfit, was one of 35 Wagner commanders invited to the meeting in Moscow.

He said that the war effort in Ukraine and the mutiny had received a “assessment” from President Putin.

Wagner and Russia’s defense ministry had engaged in a highly public feud over the course of the conflict. Prigozhin has repeatedly charged that the ministry had neglected to provide his force with weapons.

However, Mr. Peskov claimed on Monday that the Wagner leader was one of the commanders who had been extended an invitation to the Kremlin five days after the mutiny’s defeat.

As reported by Interfax news agency, “The president gave an assessment of the company’s actions on the front.”

“He also provided his evaluation of the events of June 24. Putin listened to the commanders’ arguments and offered different options for their upcoming employment and combat use.

The spokesperson claims that Prigozhin assured Mr. Putin of Wagner’s unwavering support.

The accord that put an end to the mutiny was mediated by Alexander Lukashenko, the leader of Belarus, who said Prigozhin was in Russia on Thursday.Late in June, the BBC monitored Prigozhin’s private jet as it traveled to Belarus and returned to Russia that same evening.

Since the Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine last year, the Wagner Group, a private army, has been engaged in combat alongside it.

Analysts characterized the revolt as the strongest challenge to President Putin’s authority in more than two decades in office, though Prigozhin did not express his criticism of Mr. Putin openly during it.

Gen. Gerasimov, meantime, has made his first public appearance since the mutiny.

There had been rumors that Wagner’s march had been postponed in exchange for the general’s dismissal. However, video that was shown on Russian TV on Monday depicts him giving the command to target Ukrainian missile installations.

He may be heard talking about recent happenings, indicating that the footage was shot after the revolt.
