The South African player, who had previously played for Western Province, joined Bath in 2012 and made 11 appearances before transferring to Bristol the following year.
In five seasons with Bristol, flanker and number eight Koster participated in 62 games. After representing Cambridge University, he retired in 2018.
There has been no mention of Koster’s death’s cause.
A statement from Bristol said, “Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with Nick’s wife Jeannie and his two young children.”
Koster, according to the report, had “a remarkable impact on and off the field” at the team.
“Everyone at Bath rugby would like to extend their sincere condolences to Nick’s family, friends, and team-mates,” according to a statement from Bath.
He will always be a member of the Bath rugby family and will be terribly missed.
