Numerous celebrities attended the funeral, which was also live-streamed to crowds outside the Saint Roch church.People proclaimed their adoration for the celebrity by holding posters and donning T-shirts.
Although she was born in England, Birkin rose to fame thanks to her parts in hit movies and songs. She also served as the model for the renowned Hermès Birkin handbag.
She was well-known for her close friendship and collaborative artistic partnership with French musician Serge Gainsbourg.
Birkin collaborated with him on the legendary song “Je T’aime… moi non plus” in 1969, which was later condemned by the Vatican and banned in several nations due to its blatantly sexual lyrics.
In the 1970s, she also rose to fame as a fashion icon thanks to her flared trousers, tiny dresses, and characteristic fringe.
She passed away last week at the age of 76 in her home in the French capital.
Vanessa Paradis, a singer, Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Deneuve, and Charlotte Rampling, three legendary actors who frequently appear in French-language films, attended the burial.
Additionally present were Birkin’s surviving daughters, singers and actors Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, as well as French First Lady Brigitte Macron.
Gainsbourg, who was visibly upset, told the audience, “I already feel the emptiness she has left behind.”
Doillon remarked, “Mother, thank you for not being conventional and reasonable.
Flowers were scattered over the area in front of the church, a sign of the esteem in which Birkin is regarded in France.
“Jane Forever” and “Thank you Jane Birkin” banners were carried by supporters, and her music was played for the audience through speakers.
The well-wishers were mostly in tears. Marie-Pierre Frapart, 63, said she came “to pay tribute to our little Englishwoman,” according to AFP.
