Scotland Defeats Austria In A T20 World Cup Qualifying Match Thanks To George Munsey’s 132

Scotland defeats Austria in a T20 World Cup qualifying match thanks to George Munsey's 132

Munsey’s 61-ball display, the highest T20 international total by a Scotsman, including 15 fours and six sixes. As Austria stumbled to 66 all out, Michael Leask claimed three wickets.

With the top two teams qualifying for the finals, Scotland has won four games in a row to lead the seven-team standings, ahead of Ireland on net run rate.

The Scots were on the verge of qualifying until Germany, the only team that could have reasonably caught Richie Berrington’s team, fell to Jersey by 51 runs later on Tuesday.

Even if Scotland loses both of their final two games, Germany or Italy would still need to win both of their games and significantly raise their net run rate in order for them to advance.Scotland’s final match is against Ireland, who are rated 12th in the world, two places above them. This match is likely to determine who wins the trophy rather than who advances to the finals.

The day before their match against Austria, Berrington’s team had won admirably over Italy, which came after a win over Germany that was hampered by weather and a close 14-run triumph over Jersey.

The highlight of Italy’s victory, Oli Hairs, scored an undefeated 127 to tie Munsey’s previous greatest T20 score, but this time he only contributed 23 to an opening partnership of 96 before being caught on the boundary. As he approached his second T20 international century off 50 balls, Munsey proceeded to despatch the Austria bowlers to all areas of the Goldenacre field, with his reverse sweep being particularly effective.

Off-spinner Leask was the standout bowler as Scotland easily defeated Austria, who were obviously more interested in trying to achieve a respectable score than in pursuing their improbable mark.Only Jaweed Sadran managed to reach double digits among Austria’s batting, while Chris Greaves, Gavin Main, and Safyaan Sharif each claimed two wickets.

“It’s incredibly fantastic to be a part of different guys rising up with match-winning performances. We have complete faith in the 15 members of the squad, as well as a few additional players around.

In June of the following year, the T20 World Cup will take place in the United States and the West Indies, and England will attempt to defend the championship they won in November.
