Mr. Molko started his profanity-filled tirade from the Sonic Park festival’s stage.
Soon after, prosecutors in Turin started looking into Mr. Molko.
Social media users have released videos of Mr. Molko yelling an expletive about the prime minister and the Italian words “fascist, racist” to the audience’s applause during the Placebo concert.
A few days later, sources told the Italian news agency Ansa that prosecutors in Turin had launched an inquiry into the incident for “defamation of [public] institutions”.
The Brothers of Italy party is led by Ms. Meloni, who also serves as head of Italy’s most right-wing administration since World War Two. She has already brought slander claims. She filed a lawsuit for severe criminal defamation against the editors of the Domani daily last year.
During the Covid-19 outbreak, Domani said Ms. Meloni attempted to assist a member of her own party in obtaining a government contract to purchase face masks.
Ms. Meloni denied the claim and demanded €25,000 (£21,500) in compensation from the newspaper. Beginning in July 2024, the trial will begin.
She also launched a slander action against journalist and Gomorrah author Roberto Saviano for labeling her a “bastard” in a 2020 TV interview where he attacked her for criticizing migrant rescue NGOs.
October has been set aside for the trial. Mr. Saviano may spend up to three years in prison if proven guilty.
Some defamation charges may fall under criminal law in Italy and result in a jail term.
