Employees at British Airways will receive a 13% wage raise.

Pilots and managers are not included in the arrangement, it claimed, but workers will also get a one-time payment of £1,000 from the company.

After months of discussions, a compromise has been reached that lessens the risk of interruption as demand for air travel grows.

In several industries, workers are demanding more pay as long as inflation stays high.

In the UK, the rate of overall price increases has remained high.

Even if it has slightly decreased, inflation is still running at 7.9%, which is much higher than the Bank of England’s target of 2%.

The goal of Unite’s compensation talks was to mitigate the consequences of inflation on employees.

The union claimed that the agreement also stopped salary reductions through 2020.

According to Unite general secretary Sharon Graham, the “sizable pay increase” resulted from “detailed negotiations”.

It occurs as the travel season for families traveling during the UK’s school summer vacations enters one of the busiest months of the year for the aviation industry.

Airlines are anxious to avoid a repetition of the mayhem that occurred at airports last summer as the industry struggled to meet increased demand as a result of the pandemic.

Since then, more difficulties have arisen as a result of industry-wide walkouts that have caused flight schedule delays.

Budget airlines like Ryanair and EasyJet have had to cancel thousands of flights due to airspace congestion brought on by air traffic controller strikes in France.

British Airways was fortunate to avoid disruption more recently after a wave of ground handlers’ strike action was called off.

It represents a turn-around for the airline, which during the pandemic laid off more than 10,000 workers.

Since then, British Airways has hired hundreds more employees as travel demand approaches 2019 levels.

British Airways’ parent company, IAG, reported record half-year profits of £1.1 billion last week. This was made possible by rising ticket prices and a continuing uptick in travel.

On the remuneration arrangement, British Airways declined to comment.
