Caroline Wozniacki won the Canadian Open with ease after making her tennis comeback.

The 33-year-old former world number one defeated Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell 6-2, 6-2 in Montreal. Since then, she has given birth to two children.

The Dane declared her intention to compete in this year’s US Open in June. In 2009 and 2014, she competed in the tournament’s New York final.

She hadn’t participated in a competitive match since the Australian Open more than three years prior, and by the time Olivia was born in June 2021 and James was born in October 2022, she had become a mother.

Wozniacki described her first victory as a mother as “pretty crazy” and noted that her kids were “napping right now, which is awesome”.

“I’m going to catch them after I do a little bit of treatment and food and stuff,” she continued. “That’s a benefit of starting games early. The afternoon is still with them.

Wozniacki lost the first game but came back to win the next four games to claim the first set. She then broke 115th-ranked Birrell in the second set to win the match.
