Firefighters in Kwara retrieve a 43-year-old man's body from a fish pond

The body of a 43-year-old man who drowned in a fish pond in Ogidi, Ilorin West local government area of Kwara State, was found on Saturday by members from the Kwara State Fire Service.

According to the state fire department, a Good Samaritan called in a distress call at around 6.24 a.m. on Saturday reporting that a man had drowned in a fish pond in the Ogidi neighborhood of Ilorin.

The community chairman, Engineer Tunde Kannike, issued the request for aid.

“While carrying out a rescue mission, the firefighters regrettably came across the dead body of a guy, believed to be 43 years old, in an abandoned fish pond.

It is thought that the man’s unintentional entry into the pond—which was hidden by overgrown grasses—was what led to this terrible tragedy. When the incident happened, he was trying to harvest herbal leaves close to the pond.

After a successful recovery effort, Kwara Fire Service officers turned over the body to the Nigeria Police G’ Division in Oloje, Ilorin, for further investigation and the appropriate formalities.

The statement read, “Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director, Kwara State Fire Service, urged the general public to be more careful in their daily activities and also they should be more vigilant in their neighborhoods to prevent similar occurrences.”
