The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police have given the Kogi people assurances that the election will be fair and impartial. Ovye-Aya and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Gabriel Longpet, provided the assurance during a session for 26 journalists in Abuja that was organized by the International Press Center (IPC).

Longpet claims that the commission has taken the necessary steps to ensure that the November 11 governorship election is peaceful, trouble-free, fair, and credible by consolidating the polls on February 25 and March 18, 2023.

To prevent any attempts to tamper with manual results when they are transferred to collation centers, we intend to ensure that all results of the governorship election in the 3,508 polling places spread over the state’s 239 wards are relayed electronically.
