After exchanging gunfire with the evading kidnappers at Umuota Village, Obosi, in the state’s Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State Police Command agents have freed a captive.
The victim, known only as Abuchi, is from the Orumba South LGA in Anambra State and was reportedly abducted on Saturday night before being freed when locals called the police.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, stated in a news release on Sunday that residents of the neighborhood stopped police officers who were on an anti-crime patrol in Obosi at around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday to let them know about a kidnapping incident.
He remarked, “Some of the hoodlums managed to flee, some with gunshot wounds, while one was wounded and taken into custody. From the gang, one double-barreled pistol, along with two live and one used cartridge, were found.
“The man who was detained identified himself as Nwasu Ikenna from Obosi. He named the fugitives as Chukwu Ojoto, Chinedu Emmanuel, and Ebuka, also known as Big.
“The hoodlum, who identified Ebuka as the gang’s leader, passed away on the way to the hospital for treatment,” the witness said.
