The parents of the National Youth Corps members who were abducted in Zamfara State have been reassured by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command that they will soon be freed.
Even though the corps members’ kidnapping occurred outside of its area of responsibility, the Command stated it was working with the Zamfara State Police Command to secure their release.
Recall that on August 17, 2023, on a highway in Zamfara State, gunmen abducted eight NYSC participants.
For their national assignment, the corps members from Akwa Ibom State were traveling to Sokoto State in an AKTC bus.
Since then, parents of the victims have voiced their displeasure that the security and NYSC authorities have not done more to secure the release of their children after they spent more than N13 million to get them back to freedom.
Odiko Macdon, the state police’s public information officer, claimed that the police were exerting every effort to secure the release of the kidnapped NYSC volunteers.
