All music from the Marlian Music record label, which is run by well-known Nigerian musician and rapper Naira Marley, has apparently been prohibited from play on the station Fresh FM 106.9 in Ekiti State.
The restriction followed mounting protest and controversy around the passing of former record label signee Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
The ban on Naira Marley’s songs was declared in a statement released on Tuesday by Oluwaseunfunmi Williams, Head of Production and Music Content at Fresh FM.
Williams was quoted as saying that the ban came as a result of “the general public’s outcry following the death of singer Mohbad, the alleged victimization from various videos going viral, and the involvement of members of his former record label, Marlian, owned by well-known Nigerian artist Naira Marley. #JusticeforMohbad.”
