A medical house officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba named Umoh Michael has passed away.
Before the tragedy, it was reported that the deceased had worked a three-day stretch doing procedures at the Neurosurgery department of the federal government-owned healthcare facility.
In the meantime, the deceased’s coworkers announced they would go on a 48-hour strike in protest of his premature death.
The strike is scheduled to start on September 20, 2023, according to a letter delivered to the Chief Medical Officer of LUTH.
The house officers also demanded that the schedules of their tasks be reviewed in each unit “to allow time for adequate rest and prevent the demise of another house officer.”
“We also demand that the work schedules of House Officers in every unit be reviewed in order to provide them enough time to recuperate and stop another House Officer from passing away. I appreciate your consideration at all times.
This occurs just after another medical professional, Diaso Vwaere, passed away in an elevator mishap at General Hospital, Lagos Island.
