Imo killings Soldiers burn down houses as residents run away

The alleged invasion of the community and the alleged damage of property by security personnel presumed to be soldiers have left residents of Oriendu in Umualumaku Umueze in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State fearing for their lives.

Armed men broke into the community the day after two patrol vehicles in the neighborhood on Tuesday were attacked by gunmen who also killed and burned some soldiers, police officers, and members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

One of our reporters came across a video in which local property was being destroyed while the announcer claimed that the act had been committed by armed officials.

It was learned that the locals protested the burning of houses and said they were currently living in terror for their lives.

A video purports to show that the raging soldiers, who were seeking retribution for their fallen comrades, destroyed a number of stores, buildings, properties, food stores, and pubs.

Only a small number of countable people, whose homes were damaged, were visible as the military allegedly inflicted horrific havoc on the peaceful village, leaving the roads seeming desolate.

Following the grisly death of some security officers in the Umualumaku community on Tuesday, the Nigerian Army has denied any involvement in any attack on or destruction of stores, including bars and restaurants, in Ehime Mbano, Imo State.

In a telephone interview, Joseph Akubo, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer, 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, stated he was not aware of any destruction committed by members of the army in the region.
