In the Lagos State neighborhood of Isheri-Berger, motorists have bemoaned the return of several police officers who specialize in extorting drivers around traffic lights.
The police officers who were allegedly working out of the Isheri Police Station were allegedly doing so during the past three months.
The investigation’s publication prompted the expulsion of the police officers from the neighborhood by the immediately preceding state commissioner of police, Abiodun Alabi.
The police officers have subsequently returned to the area, though, to continue extorting drivers who they typically accuse of running red lights.
Sunday Oroleke, a motorist who was lately the victim of their pranks, claimed that the group’s commander demanded N 25,000 from him before letting him go.
The officers returned to the neighborhood, according to a local resident who requested anonymity. This was around three months ago.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, could not be reached because calls to his phone went unanswered.
As of the time this complaint was submitted, he had not responded to a text message that was sent to him.
