1.Be conscious of when you sleep.

Kind bit like the golden rule of rest, intentionality. You must be dedicated to relaxing for it to be effective. According to Howes, “two hours of focused, intentional relaxing is better than six hours of half-hearted relaxing.” In actuality, we frequently squander our downtime. We don’t genuinely know what we want, so we leave ourselves open to distractions or jump from activity to activity. Instead, practice telling yourself, “Okay, it’s time to relax,” and actually understanding what you mean by saying.

2. Learn what calms you down in reality.

Although it may seem obvious, many people don’t choose their leisure activities with much care or ingenuity.

You might want to change the way you initially think about rest in order to start figuring out what it means to you.

3.Plan your downtime and give yourself plenty of it.

When we don’t establish plans, we frequently rely our decisions on how we are feeling at the time. And while that might sometimes be advantageous for relaxation (such as when you decide to delay your plans after a challenging day in order to spend a quiet evening at home), other times it works against us. You won’t get nearly enough sleep if you wait for the right moment to unwind or until you feel like you “deserve” it (more on that later). Even if it only takes up a few 15-minute bubbles here and there, you must schedule it in.
