On December 15, the Supreme Court will rule on the appeal requesting that the Federal Government free IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu from custody. The appeal is attempting to force the Federal Government to do so.
Kanu’s release had been mandated by a decision rendered on October 13, 2022 by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The appellate court also overturned a 15-count terrorism charge that the FG filed against the jailed IPOB leader before the Federal High Court in Abuja, in a unanimous ruling by a three-member panel.
However, FG appealed the case to the Supreme Court after being unhappy with the verdict.
After the parties to the case adopted their final papers during the proceedings on Thursday, a five-member panel of the supreme court led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun set the subject for judgment.
When submitting his final brief, Kanu Mike Ozehkome’s SAN attorney pleaded with the court to order his client’s immediate release from custody and impose severe sanctions on the FG.
