As a prerequisite for resolving the issue, the Ondo State House of Assembly urged Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, to withdraw all court suits brought against him during the impeachment process on Wednesday.
After meeting with several Assembly members and state party leaders, the national leadership of the party intervened and the Assembly decided to postpone the impeachment procedure against the beleaguered deputy governor.
The House Committee on Information Chairman, Mr. Olatunji Oshati, released a statement in which he stated the House was simply invoking Section 188 of the Constitution in response to a petition that the deputy governor had been accused of serious misconduct and abuse of authority.
According to reports, the Speaker of the Ondo Assembly and the National Reconciliation Committee’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, met on Tuesday. It was decided that the impeachment should be halted by Mr. Olamide Oladiji, a few APC lawmakers, and the APC leadership in Ondo state.
In a related event, the PDP chapter in Ondo State has attacked Dr. Doyin Odebowale, a spokesman for state governor Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, over remarks he made on the governor’s whereabouts.
During a Tuesday appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Odebowale, the governor’s special adviser on special duty and strategy and resident in a two-bedroom apartment in the state government house, stated that the PDP was not permitted to inquire about the governor’s whereabouts. This was one of the explanations he offered for the governor’s tardiness in coming back to the state.
The PDP’s Kennedy Peretei, the publicity secretary, responded to Odebowale’s remarks on Wednesday by claiming that Akeredolu’s assistant didn’t know what was expected of a governor.
