Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has taken aim at those who have been critical of prominent Nollywood artists over the state of his colleague John Okafor, also called Mr. Ibu.
Following his struggle with an unidentified ailment that could result in the amputation of his legs, Mr. Ibu recently called out for prayers.
The comedic actor begged for assistance and prayed for guidance to get out of his situation in a video that was posted on his social media pages.
Online critics reacted to the video in a variety of ways, with Reno Omokri and Uche Maduagwu among them criticizing Mr. Ibu’s colleagues for abandoning him during his hour of need.
In reaction, Kanayo refuted rumors that Nollywood actors and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had abandoned the comedic actor in a video posted on his verified Instagram account on Thursday.
He said that although several A-list celebrities had backed Mr. Ibu and it wouldn’t be wise to make the announcement in public, people shouldn’t use this as an excuse to criticize those who haven’t contributed to the sick actor’s medical expenses.
Kanayo cautioned against using Mr. Ibu’s condition as a means of gaining influence on social media.
