Supporters have taken issue with Nollywood for permitting well-known comedian John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, to ask Nigerians for money and prayers because he may need to have his leg amputated.
A video of the star celebrating his birthday in a hospital with some of his relatives went viral on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, as he begged for help.
Fans of the actor had differing opinions about this, believing that Nollywood was not doing enough to guarantee the financial stability of seasoned performers. Additionally, Mr. Ibu’s coworkers came under fire for their lack of willingness to offer assistance.
“Nollywood actors, especially the wealthy ones we call legends, are always quick to spray money and donate cows at colleagues parents’ burial ceremonies, but slow to assist them when they are alive and need help,” controversial actor Uche Madagwu remarked in response to the viral video.
