On Friday, the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited declared a fire occurrence. This was confirmed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
It did, however, stress that the event will not impact the refinery’s ongoing restoration and that the fire had been contained.
The national oil company revealed via a post with the description, “Minor fire outbreak at Warri refinery contained,” posted on its official X (previously Twitter) account.
“There was a minor fire incident at the cooling tower of Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited this afternoon at about 15:02hrs,” the company said.
Nigeria’s refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna are run by NNPCL. Even though the facilities are being renovated, none of them are refining crude at the moment.
