On Wednesday, a bill that aims to prevent a current governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from engaging in political activities and to realign the bank for greater efficiency passed second reading in the Senate.
There was also discussion of a second law that would have made it illegal to utilize foreign money for local transactions.
Remember that while in service, Godwin Emefiele, the recently elected governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, attempted to run for the APC’s 2023 presidential primary
Nigerians, who questioned how a public official in service could run for election in defiance of the constitution’s current provisions, strongly denounced the action.
The measure introduced by the congressman from Kogi West also aims to forbid using foreign money for internal activities in Nigeria.
By adding Section 20(a) to Section 20 of the CBN Act, the bill attempts to change it.
