On Sunday night, there was a loud explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly building.
The event coincided with purported efforts by certain legislators to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.
Information surfaced that around 9:25 p.m., a few people suspected of arson hurled an explosive into the complex, starting a fire in the structure.
Despite Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police command spokesperson, not being reachable on her cell phone, a senior police official verified the occurrence to our correspondent.
Because of the delicate nature of the situation, the police officer begged to remain anonymous but stated that the incident was politically motivated.
It is alleged that the leader of the House has been impeding efforts to remove Fubara.
