A child-stealing ring in Igogoro Village, Enugu-Ezike community of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, has been busted by Enugu State Police Command operations in the Igbo-Eze North police division.
The coordinated operation with the Neighbourhood Watch Group happened on October 27, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Ifeanyi Omeke, the 21-year-old who was detained, admitted to trying to kidnap a one-year-three-month-old girl child for ceremonial purposes.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the state police public relations officer, made this revelation on Sunday at the state force headquarters.
According to Ndukwe, “the suspect was apprehended after he tried to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child by breaking into the complainant’s home in the mentioned community.”
“The suspect admitted to the crime and said that he was hired by his gang to kidnap children for rituals and other illegal activities.”
According to the statement, the State Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation that will result in the arrest and prosecution of additional members of the criminal syndicate. This transfer of the case was ordered by the state commissioner of police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu.
