Promotion within the Police Force, according to Acting Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, would now be determined by merit.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Egbetokun made this claim on Friday while speaking to staff members of the Kano State Police Command.
Additionally, he declared that the Force would no longer offer special promotions.
Additionally, Egbetokun urged the staff to abstain from extortion and other unethical practices in order to improve their reputation in the ongoing struggle against criminal forces in society.
“I used to advise my colleagues to cease extorting people because being a police officer is the best profession in the world and a very nice job. is a job where, if you perform it very well, people will pray for you.
“If you want prayers, this work will provide enough of them for you. Additionally, if you want the opposite of prayers, you will also get it. So, keep that in mind,” he said.
God loved the police, and He was waiting for a policeman to bless, Egbetokun reaffirmed to the group.
“Some of you would have sent angels that God sent to you on your wickedness’s behalf away.
You are communicating to God that He doesn’t need to worry about me because I can bless myself at this very moment that you are indulging in corruption.
But if you approach your work with a fear of God, God will choose to bless you.
“You must will it for yourself if you want your own particular blessing. As a result, decide if you want a blessing from God or one of your own choosing.
The IG-P declared, “I would much rather choose the blessing that will come from God.”
According to Egbetokun, the Force CID will be reorganized such that only competent and qualified officers would work in the division and state commands.
Only officers who can win the public’s trust will now be appointed to sensitive positions like police commissioners, area commanders, and DPOs. You won’t be considered for such roles if you can’t win over the public’s trust.
“We seek proficiency, sincerity, and integrity. We can only do it if we want to inspire public confidence.
“The public’s backing is what we seek. We cannot ask for assistance while also failing to demonstrate accountability, competence, or skill.
“We must exhibit our ability. We must act honorably. We need to establish our credibility with the general population. We are the top internal security organization. We must provide evidence for this.
We must demonstrate our dedication to professionalism. We must strengthen our communication with the general people. In our system, extortion and corruption must end. We aren’t paid for it.
Earlier, Mr. Hussaini Gumel, the state’s commissioner of police, said that more than 150 criminals had been apprehended throughout the state.
He said that a thorough security network had already been developed to ensure the capture and conviction of criminal elements within the state.
