In contrast, the strike halted government operations in a number of states, including Rivers, Edo, Cross River, Benue, Kaduna, and Kano. Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Ekiti, Kwara, and Kebbi all showed some degree of compliance.
Speaking on the strike, NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed satisfaction with the level of observance on the first day of the two-day warning strike and claimed that the strike’s first day completely met NLC’s goals.
We are pleased with the amount of compliance, he stated. I can confirm that we achieved our goals on day one of the warning strike. Day two, in our opinion, will send a clearer message to the federal government about our determination to stop our members and other Nigerians from being subjected to the poor policies of our government.
We started off with goals that we outlined in the statement we issued on Friday, September 1, 2023. Until we are confident that the proper authorities have answered our demands, we will tenaciously pursue our goals.
Ajaero thanked NLC members in the states and affiliate unions “for the massive support and efforts to ensure that the first day of the nationwide warning strike took off with a resounding success across the nation” in a circular to state councils titled “Our two-day nationwide warning strike: First day of success”.
