The widow Amarachi Anakor’s in-laws intended to bury her late husband in a forest, and the Anambra State government has intervened in her case through the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.
The widow, whose late husband is known as Chike, filed a complaint with the government, which led to the current development.
Amarachi claimed that instead of allowing her to bury her late husband in the compound, her brother-in-law Vincent and father-in-law Obi had insisted that the body be interred in the jungle.
Amarachi, who was married in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, despite being a native of Ifitedunu Local Government Area, stated that her in-laws were the first to learn of her husband’s passing. However, she received the greatest shock of her life when they informed her that her husband had been deprived of his rights while he was still alive and would not be interred in the compound.
Following her complaint to the Office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, the kingsmen and both families were invited to the conference, and a decision was reached giving the Anakor family seven days to schedule the late Chike Anakor’s funeral.
“The widow told the minister during the panel’s meeting that she had lost her daughter earlier that day, which is difficult for her to handle.
