Awka — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the state, following a major security operation by the new task force codenamed Operation Udo Ga Achi.
The governor revealed that during a recent raid on a criminal hideout in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, security operatives neutralized 15 suspected criminals and captured 13 others alive.
Reacting to the recent murder of state lawmaker Hon. Justice Azuka, whose body was discovered at the Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha, Soludo assured the public that arrests had already been made.
“I have received the sad story of our lawmaker’s death. Six suspects have been arrested, and efforts are underway to track the native doctor who prepares charms for the criminals in Asaba,” Soludo said. “We are determined to liberate Anambra completely from these elements.”
The governor hailed the recent successes of the security architecture under Operation Udo Ga Achi and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue the crackdown until peace is fully restored.
“This morning, our security operatives invaded a camp in Owerre-Ezukala, neutralizing 15 gunmen and capturing 13. We are on the last lap now. Kidnapping has become lucrative because they believe Anambra people will pay. But we are fighting to finish—we are ready to clear them off,” Soludo said.
However, controversy erupted as reports surfaced that three individuals from the governor’s hometown, Isuofia, were mistakenly killed during the raid. According to a viral video, the three young men were reportedly construction workers at a building site in Owerre-Ezukala when they were mistakenly gunned down by the operatives.
In the video, angry women from the community were seen protesting by using the corpses to barricade a road near a Catholic Church, expressing outrage over the incident.
Governor Soludo has yet to officially comment on the allegations, but sources indicate that an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
