The party leadership in Ondo State has been urged by hundreds of APC members in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area to choose a local candidate to fill the open seat for the Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
After Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the former elected representative of the constituency, resigned in order to accept President Bola Tinubu’s appointment as the Minister for Interior, the seat of the federal constituency fell vacant.
The APC members demanded that the candidate chosen to fill the open seat come from their local government at a peaceful rally they conducted in Arigidi Akoko on Friday. They claimed that any proposal that went against their wishes might not be advantageous for the party.
The rally’s organizer, Mrs. Simbiat Ajana, stated that the goal was to draw the party leadership’s attention to the fact that the local government should be allowed to continue producing House of Representatives representatives in accordance with the unwritten rotational agreements between them and the Akoko North-East Local Government.
Ajana, the APC Woman Leader in Akoko North West LG, pointed out that Tunji-Ojo is from the council and that a member of the council should run to complete the term.
