In order to fill the void in its normal manpower intake in Rivers and Delta States, the Nigerian Army has launched a sensitization drive in those regions.
During a Wednesday advocacy visit in Port Harcourt with Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, the army stated that the two South-South states did not meet its 60% quota in the most recent recruiting drive.
Brigadier-General Timmy Mackintosh, who led the Army team in Rivers, stated that the anomaly had to be rectified right now to prevent complaints of marginalization during the next 20 to 30 years.
Mackintosh clearly stated that Rivers State was not good enough to meet 60% of its own quota.
He added that after noticing the pattern, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, gave the team instructions to raise awareness among the state’s indigenous population in an effort to increase enrollment.
He added that the army typically takes care of its members’ academic advancement and that the minimal academic requirement was four credits.
