Five policemen assigned to the Area N Command, Ijede, Ikorodu, have been summoned, according to the Lagos State Police Command, following an altercation they had with a passing motorist.
A video that went viral online showed police officers exiting a busy gas station while customers yelled at them. They booed the officers as they yelled, “Thief!”
An X user named @PIDOMNIGERIA said that the cops fired shots at the vehicle after he left a gas station without taking into account the volatility of a fuel-loaded tanker parked on the gas store’s property.
In response, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in a statement on his X account on Wednesday that in contrast to accusations that the driver was double-crossed and bullets were fired, the cops were just trying to apprehend the driver for a traffic offense.
The five guys, all of whom worked at Area N in Ijede, were recognized and called to the headquarters for further examination and any necessary action, according to Hundeyin.
