At the 16th edition of the award presentation, which was held on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA, many viewers and guests had voiced their anger over the organizers’ choice to halt the ceremony in the middle of it and their inability to announce the winners of 13 categories.
Best Female Artiste, Best Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best R&B Single, Best Vocal Performance (Female), Headies Viewers’ Choice, and Best East African Artiste of the Year are among the categories that have not yet been revealed.
Other categories include Best International Artist of the Year, Best Alternative Album, Best R&B Album, Best Southern African Artist of the Year, Best Central African Artist of the Year, Best North African Artist of the Year, etc.
The event’s organizers abruptly ended it without providing an explanation, but they later announced the unexpected awards on social media.
Ayra Starr, who was voted Best Female Artiste of the Year, responded to the development by saying she would never be appreciative of winning an unannounced category on stage.
The singer discussed how she and other female singers work hard in the music business and do not deserve such a careless attitude in the post she made on X, formerly known as Twitter.
