On Wednesday, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for continuing to hold without charge or trial the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and the immediate past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
On June 14, just hours after the president had suspended him, Bawa—the first head of the EFCC to not come from the Nigerian police’s ranks and files—was brought into custody by the Department of State Services.
Babachir, who expressed similar opinions, said in a statement released on Wednesday that the people are entitled to expect Nigeria to ensure that everyone has the freedom to express themselves and exercise their human rights.
