Nobody expected this. Coronavirus has put everything out of kilter. And various stars will walk away at the end of their deals in June. Barcelona are alert to those who may be going.
In defence there’s Thomas Meunier, Thiago Silva and Jan Vertonghen
who will be out of contract, all experienced defenders who can still
perform at good levels. The PSG defenders seem unlikely to stay, while
Vertonghen is a magnificent option that Barcelona have always liked.
In
midfield, Chelsea’s Willian has long been linked with Barca. He’s got a
good long-distance shot, good vision, can break through defences. He’s a
bit inconsistent but a top option for the club to get at zero cost.
David Silva too. Meanwhile, Charles Aranguiz is also playing well at
Bayer Leverkusen and will be going free.
Up front there are
some interesting names. Pedro will leave Chelsea, he could return to
Barca, while Edinson Cavani, Olivier Giroud and Dries Mertens are all
possibilities too.
