A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of three people travelling on two commercial motorcycles in the Alakija neighborhood of Lagos.
It was determined that the victims suffered head-on collisions with the BRT vehicle traveling from Mile 2 to Okomaiko in the state’s Ojo region.
They reportedly crashed their motorcycles into the bus while traveling home from a football game in Navy Town, Ojo.
Following the incident, a mob and young people surrounded the BRT bus with the intention of setting it ablaze.
But it required the prompt action of police officers from FESTAC Police Station, under the command of Divisional Police Officer Balogun Gboyega, to stop the situation from getting worse.
One of the motorcycle riders’ remains was removed by family members, while three others were transported to the FESTAC Police Station.
According to an eyewitness, the cops saved the BRT driver from being lynched by the mob.
The BRT bus driver and the officers transported them both to the station.
With the start of BRT bus operations on the route, the Lagos state government has outlawed riding motorcycles on the BRT road from Okomaiko to Mile 2.
