A renowned market in Calabar, Cross River called Watt caught fire on Thursday morning, destroying goods estimated to be worth millions of naira.
No fewer than six stores in the shopping center where the fire event took place were impacted by the fire, which was reported to have started at two in the morning.
When confirming the occurrence to reporters, Mrs. Olumayowa Olomola, the Commanding Officer of the Federal Fire Service’s Calabar Command, stated that a power surge in one of the market’s shopping malls was the source of the fire.
Olomola claimed that the stores were well-stocked despite being unable to determine the amount of items damaged in the impacted stores.
She said that more stores would have been impacted by the fire if her team hadn’t acted quickly to put it out.
