Chelsea is prepared to make their second attempt to sign Napoli striker Dries Mertens, the Blues and other top clubs in Europe are vying for the signature of the Belgian star since the transfer window but none of the suitors met Napoli’s asking price.
The report in Gazette Dello Sport reported that the Blues are prepared to make a second bid for the Napoli man with Mertens yet to sign a new deal at the Italian club.
Chelsea is not the only club after the Belgian, however, with Inter Milan also linked with the Napoli forward.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is keen on strengthening the attack and he is ready to add the Belgian star to the attack.
Olivier Giroud is linked with a move away from Chelsea and he could be as well replaced with the Napoli attacker.
The versatility of Mertens shows that he can replace both Willian and Giroud in the team and Lampard has realised that the signing of Mertens could the gap between both players if they leave the Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old would be a massive addition to Chelsea but his signing could affect the development of Callum Hudson Odoi who has been inconsistent in Lampard’s team this season.
