Court remands two individuals over the missing Anambra LP governor candidate

Jude Chukwudi Odimegwu and Nwokolo Chukwudi Maxwell, the suspects, are being prosecuted for the kidnapping of Agbasimelo in Lilu, Ihiala Local Government Area, in advance of the 2021 election. Agbasimelo was on a campaign tour at the time. Agbasimelo has not been found as of yet.When the case was called, the prosecuting state counsel, Charity Madukaife, an Assistant Director of Prosecution, and Chima Gift, counsel for the first defendant, Jude Chukwudi Odimegwu, were both present in court; however, Nwokolo Maxwell’s attorney was not, which led the presiding judge, Justice C N Mbonu-Nwenyi, to adjourn the matter to October 27, 2023.

However, Justice Mbonu-Nwenyi issued a warning that she would not put up with any more unjustified delays in the prosecution of the case, noting that up to this point, the defense has been the one dragging its feet, not the court.

The accusation states that on September 18, 2021, at Lilu in the Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, the accused persons attacked and caused the disappearance of the victim, Obiorah Agbasimalo, a Labour Party candidate for governor in 2021, whose whereabouts are still unknown.
