Delta Governor Oborevwori bemoans high living expenses and fuel imports as a result of Nigeria's failing refineries

Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, has expressed regret over the high cost of living, the importation of fuel, and Nigeria’s failed refineries.

The governor insisted that Nigeria has no need to import gasoline because of the negative economic effects it would have on the country and encouraged the federal government and relevant stakeholders to work toward revitalizing the nation’s refineries.

Oborevwori welcomed the National Executive Committee of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Tuesday at the Government House in Asaba. The delegation was led by its National President, Williams Akporeha.

He declared, “Our refineries have been idle for years, and nobody discusses how we can use them; instead, we import petroleum products.

“This is also hurting this nation’s economy. Take a look at how much products have increased in price as a result of our lack of production. We wouldn’t be facing these difficulties if we were generating.

“The goods we use now are imported, and our refineries are malfunctioning. There was no justification for a country with four refineries and an oil industry to import fuel for domestic use.
