Alafuro Peterside, a father of three, was buried after a police officer shot and killed him at a well-liked bar on Stadium Road in Port Harcourt.
On Friday, the late engineer was laid to rest in a private cemetery in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
Tears were shed by his family and a large number of supporters during a brief service held at his graveside. Many of the people wearing black apparel had somber expressions on their faces and had left the location as soon as he was buried.
Following final respects, families, friends, and supporters gathered at the Port Harcourt Club for a burial reception in honor of the late Peterside.
Enefaa Geirgewill, the chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organization, also encouraged the police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry rather than ignore the issue while denouncing the occurrence.
In addition, Georgewill had urged the police to identify and prosecute the suspected murderous police officer.
The culprit has been charged in court, according to the Commissioner of Police, however the Rivers State Police Command has not yet released the name of the police officer who shot the late Peterside.
During the funeral, Josephine Peterside, the deceased’s younger sister, made a plea for prompt justice in the pending trial.
