A Nigerian father has accused a Benin hospital of infecting his 19-month-old baby with HIV after two blood transfusions administered by the facility.
The allegation was shared in a post on a popular social media platform, TikTok, showing the father alongside documents purportedly obtained from the hospital.
According to the report, the child was first taken to the hospital on February 6, 2025, over a high fever and critically low blood level.
The hospital recommended an urgent blood transfusion, which the parents agreed to, purchasing blood for ₦40,000.
The family returned to the same hospital on May 3, 2025, when the child’s condition worsened. Once again, doctors advised another transfusion.
The father, identified as Praise Mumbo, said he and his wife offered to donate their own blood, but the hospital declined, citing the absence of medical personnel to screen it.
Instead, they were instructed to purchase another unit of blood for ₦35,000.
Mumbo said the family was later devastated when a doctor at a government hospital diagnosed the baby, Jeremiah, as HIV positive.
He alleged that the infection was contracted during the transfusions carried out at Safe Bliss Medical Center, a private hospital in Benin City, and is now seeking justice for what he described as medical negligence.
