A police officer named Belasa Iyangedue was fired by the Benue State Police Command for raping a 16-year-old who was being held in custody.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the victim was held for libel.
The policeman who appeared to be helping her reportedly walked inside the female cell and took her into an office where he had sex with her without her will while she was being held at the Divisional Police headquarters in Tse Agbaragba in the state’s Konshisha Local Government Area.
According to reports, the minor reported the incident to the divisional police officer, which resulted in the constable’s detention and the referral of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi.
At the Makurdi Magistrates’ Court, a case against the constable is already pending.
Bartholomew Onyeka, the state’s commissioner of police, informed the media of his dismissal on Tuesday in Makurdi.
