Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has issued a warrant for the arrest of Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, also known as 2-Baba, and every member of his criminal gang for the killing of Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim in the Odiemudie Community of the state’s Ahoada East local government area.
A N100 million reward has also been offered by Fubara for information leading to 2-Baba’s capture and punishment.
Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, a monarch, was also given an indefinite suspension by the governor for his involvement in the murder.
This information was provided by Governor Fubara in a statement that he signed, released, and made accessible to newsmen on Saturday night.
According to the statement, the king gave the infamous David Gift and his gang wide rein to operate and engage in criminal activity throughout his domain.
“I was briefed on the security operations around the Odiemudie Community in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state and the horrific murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, by a group of criminals who are currently at large,” the statement reads.
“While returning from their mission, where they had been ambushed by the criminals, S.P. Bako and his crew encountered an ambush. Sadly, he was wounded in the ensuing gunfire, taken hostage, and later killed by his captors.
The entire incident was traced by reliable intelligence from the security agencies to one Gift David Okpara Okpolowu (also known as 2-Baba) and his criminal gang, who have set up camps in the area and are in charge of the upsurge in violent crimes like kidnapping and terrorism in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the State.
“I repeat our commitment to ensuring the security of all people,” the governor added. “I also promise everyone that we will use all available means to track down Gift David and his gang and bring them to justice.
“Finally, I would want to express my sincere sympathies for this irreparable loss to the family of SP Bako, particularly the wife and children, as well as the State’s Police Command on behalf of the government and people of Rivers State.
“SP Bako devoted his life to keep us safe and secure. He was a good, brave, and duty-bound police officer. We honor him for his amazing bravery and sacrifice while he was still serving his country when he passed away.
