A water surge caused by the Oyan River Dam’s excess water release has forced some Lagos-Ibadan Expressway residents, traders, and other commercial operations to evacuate.
When our journalist went there on Monday, the water nearly leveled the large bridge that runs alongside the road.
The majority of those impacted are residents of Warewa’s residential neighborhoods, including Isheri Riverview and other estates close to the OPIC region.
There was nowhere for the workers at a block company near OPIC to put their feet, so they complained the wetness made it hard for them to work.
In the meantime, state governor Dapo Abiodun promised prompt action to the flooded area’s population on Monday when he proclaimed a state of emergency.
After touring the flooded hamlet, the governor met with media representatives and stated that his administration is coordinating with the federal government to handle the issue as an emergency.
