OrderPaperToday – The lawmaker representing Gwer-West/Gwer-East federal constituency of Benue State, Mr. Mark Gbillah has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of shielding his kinsmen in spite of the violence and killings being perpetuated by herdsmen in parts of the country.
Mr. Gbillah also called on the President to fire all security chiefs and immediately declare herdsmen as terrorists.
The lawmaker said these in an interview with OrderPaperNG on the recent killings in Plateau state allegedly carried out by herdsmen which left over two hundred (200) persons dead in Barkin Ladi local government area of the state.
He said: “First of all, I commiserate with the people of Plateau state. I insist that Mr. President would only be confirming his complicity in these killings if he doesn’t immediately declare the herdsmen as a terrorist organization so that the full might of security forces can be unleashed on the them because it appears as if he is unable to respond to what everyone is saying, including the victims and witnesses have confessed that the attacks are carried out by Fulani herdsmen which appears as if there are his kith and kin.
“We are expressively emphasizing the vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the other service chiefs and the service chiefs in the country have to be replaced immediately because there seems to be inability on their part to properly prosecute the apprehension of these herdsmen.
“We also question the actions of the IGP where police commissioners are deployed and changed at will and assigned again.”
He also called on the Plateau state government to toe the part of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State by enacting the anti open grazing law.
“We are calling on the Plateau state government to take a queue from what has has been done in Benue state and enact a law. That’s their constitutional powers but fortunately I would not use this sad situation to indict the governor because when our own governor stood up and was fighting for the right of the people, he then condemned his action but now the chicken has come to roost,” he said.
According to him, “it is a disservice to the governors when you say it’s they are meant to secure their states. Unfortunately, the constitution does not give them such powers so they are only chief security officers by name. Mind you they only provide logistical support to the security agencies while the strategy, approvals, and instructions still come from the top.”
