In the past nine months, 252 alleged drug dealers and traffickers have been taken into custody by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State.
The suspects were taken into custody between January and September of 2023, according to the NDLEA’s State Commander, Buba Wakawa, who made this announcement on Thursday in Benin through Assistant Commander, Narcotic, who is in charge of Media and Advocacy, Ondoimi Bebetu.
He added that the agency was legally allowed to counsel and that some of the drug users among them had been released to their loved ones after receiving counseling.
He clarified that in order to combat drug trafficking, the agency coordinated with the Army, police, and other sister agencies to conduct sporadic searches throughout the state’s hotels and event venues.
“The NDLEA has arrested 252 suspected drug traffickers and peddlers in the state since January,” he stated. While some of them are still in court, some have received counseling, and some have been sent in jail.
