Two people died on Sunday in Kano State near the Baban Gwari Roundabout on Katsina Road after becoming stuck and suffocating inside a reservoir tank.
Saminu Abdullahi, the state Fire Service’s public relations officer, made this announcement in a statement on Sunday.
According to Abdullahi, the victims’ suffocation caused a quick loss of consciousness while they were within the tank.
He clarified that after trying in vain to contact the victims via phone, a truck driver who had arrived at the scene sounded the alarm.
He added that the victims, identified as Philip Osando (40 years old) and Philip Emernual (35 years old), were found by the fire service personnel upon arrival.
He disclosed that even though they were saved, both of them were declared dead not long after.
According to him, the deceased were received by Inspector Abubakar Surajo of the Dala Police Division, who assured them that a comprehensive investigation was being conducted to ascertain the reason of the event.
He emphasized that the likelihood of such catastrophic events can be greatly decreased by double-checking and following the correct safety procedures.
He mentioned that the Kano State Fire Service asked the public to be cautious in all activities they performed and stressed the significance of making safety the first concern.
