Users of popular social media platform Instagram were shocked to see a noticeable decrease in their follower count.

a fake tweet supposedly sent out from Instagram’s twitter account generated mass hysteria as it suggested that Instagram was going to delete fake and inactive accounts if they didn’t repost the tweet with the hashtag “Save My Account 2019”.

Instagram has since come out to denounce the tweet and attempted to ease the concerns of those who thought they had lost their followers overnight.
“We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now,” Instagram wrote. “We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
