Inter are set to trigger an option to extend Ashley Young’s deal at the San Siro.

The Italians bought Young, 34, from Manchester United in January for £1.3million on an initial six-month contract, with an extra year which they now intend to take up.

It is understood there is a “mutual option” that player and club must decide on but there is a willingness for Inter to keep the former England international.

Serie A clubs have returned to training following the coronavirus pandemic bringing football to a halt and Italy into lockdown. Young’s future at Inter is likely to be confirmed when the conclusion of the 2019/20 is known.

He has started every league game for Antonio Conte since arriving from United. While he has been played at right-back at Old Trafford, Conte has used him in the left wing-back role that he starred in for England when he reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018.
